Jayne Pierson
BA Year 2 Fashion
Jayne Pierson is currently studying in her second year of the BA Honours in Fashion at Coleg Sir Gâr’s West Wales School of the Arts.
From the age of 10, Jayne grew up in America in an environment filled with drawing, sewing and designing. Her mother worked as a stylist on the US TV shows Dallas and Dynasty, dressing the likes of Joan Collins and Linda Grey.
Since joining West Wales School of the Arts at Coleg Sir Gâr to re-train for a career in fashion, Jayne has never looked back. As a second-year degree student, she has already gained valuable work experience at Alexander McQueen’s, one of the most famous international fashion designers, at his studio in London. Jayne worked with his creative team, working copiously towards the Spring/Summer Paris show 2008. She also met the top-man himself, Alexander McQueen, who gave her a boost of confidence by selecting a garment she had been working on for the show.
This summer, Jayne will be working as Vivienne Westwood’s design assistant but was also offered work with Jonathan Saunders this summer to assist on his New York show as well as being offered paid employment as product developer at Burberry.
Jayne said, 'My experience of the college was totally positive. It was so refreshing to find a place where different approaches are welcomed. They try to bring ‘you’ out in a way that is quite unique. They encourage you to develop an inquisitive and explorative approach to design.'
'You re-discover yourself and explore what makes you tick. I had never drawn before this course and I was totally ignorant of Photoshop and other software, but the approach is to bring your own individual and creative side to the surface by utilising all the up-to-the-minute technology that they have to hand at the college. The lecturers are very encouraging, helpful and professional and are great mentors.'
