Mountview Academy Of Theatre Arts Overview
Founded in 1945, Mountview Academy Of Theatre Arts is now recognised as one of the country's leading Academies of Theatre Arts, offering an extensive and stimulating training for those interested in pursuing a performance, directing or technical theatre career. Mountview Academy Of Theatre Arts is situated in the London Borough of Haringey, North London, home of the famous Alexandra Palace. The site is well placed for easy access to West End theatres, fringe venues and London nightlife.
Mountview Academy Of Theatre Arts' courses are structured to give students a thorough grounding in all aspects of their chosen field. Students are trained to have a highly developed range of skills which will enable them to bring thought, energy and commitment to their professional work, giving them the tools to succeed in a competitive industry.
Students are able to work, not only with Mountview Academy's experienced teaching staff but also with directors, actors, choreographers, musical directors, set designers, lighting and sound designers, and stage management working in the profession. As well as keeping students in touch with current professional practice, this provides valuable contacts on completion of their course.
Mountview Academy Of Theatre Arts also has a strong commitment to training in television with its specialised requirements and students are given opportunities to work with the school's professional television staff. Acting students also study radio technique, working in the school's purpose-built radio studio.
Former performance students include Amanda Holden (Cutting It), Don Gilet (55 Degrees North), Nick Moran (Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels), Ken Stott (The Vice), Sally Whittaker (Coronation Street), Helen Latham (Footballers Wives), Ayub Khan Din writer of the award-winning play and film East is East and director Edward Hall.
Productions
Students have an excellent range of opportunities to gain production experience throughout their training. Mountview Academy Of Theatre Arts produces over twenty-two new theatrical productions as well as over eight television dramas a year. Productions are performed in our own theatres and in other London venues.
West End showcase
All full-time courses (except Classical Acting) culminate in a West End showcase to which agents, casting directors, production managers and prospective employers in the industry are invited. In preparation for the Showcase, Mountview Academy's Development department produces a graduation booklet which includes a photograph and detailed information about each student, which is distributed to over 2,000 contacts within the industry.
British Actors Equity Association
Courses accredited by the National Council for Drama Training are an assurance to both the student and his/her future employer that the training is of an appropriate professional standard. This also means that EU graduating students automatically qualify for membership of the main performing arts trade union Equity.
Masterclasses
Students are provided opportunities to attend masterclasses with a senior figure from theatre, television or film. In the past masterclasses have been given by Kevin Spacey, Richard E Grant, Lynn Redgrave, Antony Sher, Vanessa Redgrave, Gillian Anderson and Jim Broadbent.
